At Queen’s College, part of the University of Melbourne, this role is not about standing guard - it’s about being a trusted, visible presence who contributes to a safe, respectful, and inclusive residential community.</p><p>We are committed to <strong>Integrity, Community, Collaboration, Excellence, and Inclusion</strong>, and we are seeking professionals who embody these values in both action and mindset.</p><p><strong>A Role with Purpose - </strong>This is a <strong>Resident Support Officer (RSO)</strong> position designed for individuals who understand that safety is deeply connected to wellbeing, trust, and human connection.</p><p>You will play a key role in supporting students after hours - not only responding to incidents but proactively contributing to a culture where students feel safe, respected, and supported.</p><hr><h5><strong>Our Commitment to Safety & Gender-Based Violence Prevention</strong></h5><p>CONSTANT and Queen’s College maintain a zero-tolerance approach to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in all its forms - including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic harm.</p><p>In line with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence, all staff share responsibility to:</p><ul><li><p>Promote a safe and respectful environment</p></li><li><p>Recognise and respond appropriately to concerning behaviours</p></li><li><p>Support early intervention and escalation where required</p></li></ul><p><strong>Important:</strong> As part of this role, candidates will be required to complete appropriate disclosures and screening in line with these obligations.</p><hr><h5><strong>Roster</strong></h5><p><strong>Roster: </strong>Monday to Friday | 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM (overnight shifts)</p><hr><h5><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h5><ul><li><p>Act as a <strong>calm, approachable and professional presence</strong> within the residential community</p></li><li><p>Build positive rapport with students through respectful and engaging interaction</p></li><li><p>Provide <strong>after-hours wellbeing support</strong> and respond to student concerns</p></li><li><p>Conduct <strong>welfare-focused patrols</strong> (not enforcement-driven)</p></li><li><p>Assist with lockouts, general enquiries, and access support</p></li><li><p>Identify and respond to <strong>early signs of distress, risk, or conflict</strong></p></li><li><p>Escalate incidents appropriately to emergency services or on-call teams</p></li><li><p>Maintain clear and accurate incident reports</p></li><li><p>Collaborate with residential life staff and university stakeholders</p></li><li><p>Support a culture of <strong>safety, inclusion, and belonging</strong></p></li></ul><hr><h5><strong>Who We’re Looking For</strong></h5><p>We are seeking mature, emotionally intelligent professionals who can operate with sound judgement and empathy in a student environment.</p><p>This role suits individuals from backgrounds such as:</p><ul><li><p>Security (community-focused)</p></li><li><p>Youth work / community services</p></li><li><p>Allied health / mental health support</p></li><li><p>Education / student services</p></li><li><p>Hospitality or customer-facing roles with strong interpersonal skills</p></li></ul><p><strong>You will stand out if you demonstrate:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Strong awareness of mental health and wellbeing support</p></li><li><p>Confidence handling sensitive situations with discretion and care</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills</p></li><li><p>The ability to remain composed under pressure</p></li><li><p>A genuine interest in supporting young people</p></li><li><p>A collaborative, non “guard mindset” approach to safety</p></li></ul><hr><h5><strong>Mandatory Requirements</strong></h5><ul><li><p>Current <strong>Victorian Security Licence</strong> (REQUIRED)</p></li><li><p>Current <strong>First Aid & CPR Certification</strong></p></li><li><p>Valid <strong>Working with Children Check</strong> (or willingness to obtain)</p></li><li><p>Availability for <strong>overnight shifts (Mon–Fri)</strong></p></li><li><p>Strong English communication skills</p></li></ul><hr><p><strong>Professional Boundaries & Role Requirements</strong><br><br>As part of our commitment to providing appropriate support to all residents, this role is subject to a genuine occupational requirement, and gender may be considered to ensure a balanced and represent
