Senior Software Engineer - Java/Spring/AWS

You will be working with one of our <strong>leading financial services clients</strong> to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.</p><p>This role is part of a strategic programme focused on <strong>modernizing the client’s mainframe capability</strong>. You will play a key role in <strong>transforming existing functionalities into modern JSON-based services</strong>, enabling improved performance, flexibility, and integration across their technology stack.</p><p>As a senior member of the team, you’ll provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and influence architectural decisions to ensure high-quality delivery.</p><h5><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h5><ul><li><p>Design, develop, and maintain robust and secure Java-based applications.</p></li><li><p>Work with <strong>Spring</strong> and <strong>Spring Batch</strong> frameworks to deliver high-performance services.</p></li><li><p>Build and deploy solutions in <strong>AWS</strong> using <strong>Lambdas</strong>, <strong>EC2</strong>, and other cloud-native services.</p></li><li><p><strong>Transform legacy functionalities</strong> to support mainframe modernization.</p></li><li><p>Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability across distributed systems.</p></li><li><p>Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including architects, testers, and DevOps engineers.</p></li><li><p>Participate in code reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior developers.</p></li><li><p>Support continuous integration and deployment pipelines to ensure efficient delivery.</p></li><li><p>Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to root cause analysis.</p></li><li><p>Work in an <strong>Agile/Scrum</strong> environment, contributing to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.</p></li></ul><h5><strong>Required Skills & Experience</strong></h5><ul><li><p><strong>5+ years</strong> of professional software development experience.</p></li><li><p>Strong expertise in <strong>Java</strong> and the <strong>Spring Framework</strong>. Versions Java 17+ & Spring 3.X+</p></li><li><p>Hands-on experience with <strong>Spring Batch</strong> for large-scale data processing, Spring Integration and Spring Kafka.</p></li><li><p>Solid background in <strong>AWS services</strong>, particularly <strong>Lambdas</strong>, <strong>EC2, EKS, Keystore and others</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of <strong>S3</strong> (or willingness to upskill quickly).</p></li><li><p>Experience with <strong>RESTful APIs</strong> and microservices architecture.</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.</p></li><li><p>Understanding of relational and non-relational database concepts. <strong>PostgreSQL and H2</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.</p></li><li><p>Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.</p></li><li><p>This role will require visits to the client site 1 week per month in Galway City</p></li></ul><h5><strong>Nice-to-Have Skills</strong></h5><ul><li><p>Experience with <strong>Ansible</strong> for automation and configuration management.</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with containerisation technologies like <strong>Docker</strong> or <strong>Kubernetes</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Exposure to financial services or highly regulated environments.</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-native applications.</p></li></ul><h5><strong>Inclusion & Diversity at Zinkworks</strong></h5><p>At Zinkworks, we are deeply committed to fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
